New Classes in Lindon

I'm really excited to be adding TWO new classes to my schedule, this time at the Lindon Community Center, a brand new center located off State Street by the Lindon pool.

We'll be having a Zumba fitness party there every Monday and Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. Plus, they are offering great pricing! Drop in for $3, buy a 10-class punchcard for $20, PLUS get 4 free classes when some refer a friend (who purchases a punchcard).

That is some great Zumba savings!

Classes start Oct. 1. I'll see you all there!

The facility is located at 25 N. Main St. Lindon, UT 84042. Plan to enter at the south east doors.

Some new songs...

These updates go up on Facebook a lot sooner and more regularly than they go up on here, so go over there and like "Zumba with Karianne."

Here are a couple awesome songs that we have added to the Zumba playlist.

This isn't the same choreography but check out the song:

Video: Basic Steps (Merengue, Reggaeton, Samba)

Degree released a few review videos for some common rhythms in Zumba. Check it out! This video first breaks down Merenque, then heads to Reggaeton, and finishes with Samba.

Playlist for July 7

I taught a fun impromptu class this evening at my office in Orem. I love that room, and it was fun moving all the tables and chairs to the side and blasting some music. I also LOVED after the class, when I put on my "In the rain" playlist and belted out some ballads in my empty office as I put everything back in place. And yes, the weather was stormy and rainy. It was perfect.

As requested, here's the music I played tonight:

Warmup:
Tonight, Tonight by Hot Chelle Rae (I used a version I sped up.)
See You Again, Miley Cyrus (You can't go wrong with Miley right??)
Pa La Discoketa a Bailar (Zumba song)
Oye, Mara (See video posted in previous post)
Hot, Hot, Hot, Buster Poindexter (I have the radio edit...don't know if it needs it.)
Something for the DJs, Pitbull (This song is always clean.)
Do You Dig It? (Zumba song)
Bateu Levou (Zumba song)
Big and Chunky, Will.I.Am (From the Madagascar 2 soundtrack)
DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love, Usher
Salome (Zumba song)
Fuego, Pitbull (I have the clean version.)
Stand By Me, Prince Royce (I used the Zumba version but also have Prince Royce's)
Jay Sean, 2012 It Ain't the End (I used a video version which doesn't have the rapping in it...)

Oh yes, I also played the Zumba music video to "Pause." Fun times. This song is also on Pitbull's new album, but Zumba also has it's own version which you can find on iTunes.

Some recent song selections

Here are a couple of songs that are inspiring me with Zumba routines right now.

Cool Down: Jay Sean, 2012 It Ain't the End of the World

I heard this song and I knew I wanted to use it for a cool down routine. I was also able to find an "original version" of the song without the rapping excerpts (which work better for a cooldown.)

Mara, Oye
This song was included on ZIN 31 and has been one of favorites routines for a while.

What is Zumba?

I get this question alot:

"So what exactly is Zumba?"

In simple terms, Zumba is a dance aerobics class focused on Latin and international rhythms like Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Reggaeton, Cha Cha, Samba, etc. Instructors can add in their own style and introduce different types of music for a portion of each class. (The split up is recommended to be 70% international music and 30% other music as desired.)

Zumba Fitness classes are known for their MUSIC, DANCE steps, and FUN. You don't need to be a dancer. You don't need to be familiar with Latin music. Come give Zumba fitness a try! You'll have lots of fun and burn lots of calories. Check out my class schedule to find a time that works for you.

Visit the official Zumba Fitness website here.

Hi, my name is Karianne and I'm a Zumba instructor.

My name is Karianne Salisbury. By day I am a communications director, but by night I am a ZUMBA Fitness instructor—one who brings energy, fun, and dance experience to a fitness class that can barely be called a workout. I have been participating in ZUMBA Fitness for almost three years and have more than 10 years of dance experience to add to that.

I completed my certification in April 2011 and am confident I can represent myself as a seasoned instructor with clear cueing, precise movements and continued energy and enthusiasm.

I grew up being very involved in dance, so that training has provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge about basic movements, music rhythms, choreography, and even how to help beginners learn to move their bodies in ways that might initially be foreign to them. In addition, my professional experience in communications and marketing gives me an advantage in spreading knowledge and information about my classes and ZUMBA Fitness in general.

I have received the Basic I ZUMBA Fitness instructor training and am currently a member of the ZUMBA Instructor Network, which provides a lot of resources for continuing education.

I love ZUMBA, and I know I can help those in my classes love and embrace it as well.
